Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renan Barao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Michael!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barao shoots for a takedown but Michael saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Barao shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Michael as he avoids it easily.
Barao leaves Michael with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Barao throws a quick inside leg kick.
Barao shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Michael as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renan Barao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick misses from Barao.
Michael shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barao but Barao pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Barao misses with a few strikes there.

Michael changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barao looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Michael in side control lands a decent elbow.

Michael goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Barao has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Michael but great work by Barao.

Barao wants to control the pace but Michael is squirming around nicely.

Barao is trying to take his opponent's back.
Michael tries to hold on but Barao pushes him away.

Michael is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Barao.
Barao is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Michael looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Michael tries to escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renan Barao dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Barao closes the distance and clinches up with Michael, looking for a takedown. Barao pushes Michael against the cage but Michael circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Barao is looking to clinch but Michael is avoiding it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Michael is defended easily by Barao.

Barao stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Michael bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Barao swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Michael counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Michael slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Michael is breathing heavily.
Michael trying to control but Barao is working from the bottom.
Barao wants to sweep but no luck.
Michael tries to free his leg and advance position but Barao is retaining full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Barao controlling the position.
Michael must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Thomas Michael has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Michael tries to keep at a distance but Barao has taken the fight into the clinch.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Barao tries to circle away but Michael has him pinned against the cage.
Barao wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Barao presses Michael against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Michael has Barao pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Barao manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Michael dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Barao turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Barao stands up and beckons Michael to his feet.
Barao shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Michael as he avoids it easily.

Michael keeps the fight on the outside.

Michael closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Michael lands in his opponent's guard.

Michael is posturing up here but Barao has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Michael tries to roll out but it's too tight and Michael has to tap! Slick submission there by Barao!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Renan Barao!
