PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adib Zaquan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bredis Gretcott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zaquan comes into the arena with Eye Of The Tiger blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Adib Zaquan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bredis Gretcott!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gretcott rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zaquan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gretcott throws a series of punches but Zaquan avoids them all with ease.
Zaquan looks for a takedown but Gretcott sprawls well.
Nice takedown defense from Zaquan. No joy for Gretcott on that attempt.
Gretcott misses with a few strikes there.
Gretcott tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zaquan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gretcott somewhat.
Gretcott scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Gretcott changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Zaquan fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Zaquan shoots in looking for a takedown. Gretcott tries to sprawl out of it but Zaquan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gretcott manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gretcott's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Gretcott duly obliges.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gretcott throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gretcott is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Gretcott drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Zaquan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Zaquan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Zaquan wants to stand and escape but Gretcott is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zaquan wriggles free and stands up.

Zaquan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Zaquan manages to end up in side control.

Zaquan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Gretcott lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Adib Zaquan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gretcott fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Zaquan clinches up with Gretcott and pushes him back against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gretcott tries to keep at a distance but Zaquan has taken the fight into the clinch.
Zaquan crunches a lovely knee into Gretcott's ribcage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Adib Zaquan will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Gretcott moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Gretcott pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Zaquan back to the cage. Gretcott follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Gretcott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gretcott takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Gretcott jumps guard but Zaquan stands there with Gretcott around his waist. Gretcott gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Gretcott has Zaquan pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zaquan manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Gretcott jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Zaquan walks away with a smile on his face. Gretcott gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bredis Gretcott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gretcott looks to land a combination but Zaquan avoids it well.

Zaquan has Gretcott pressed against the cage, preventing Gretcott from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Adib Zaquan.
I think Zaquan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
