PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cantwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Beavis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Beavis!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantwell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Beavis manages to avoid it.
Steve Cantwell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cantwell shoots in and gets a takedown into Beavis's guard.
Beavis trying to control the position.
Cantwell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Beavis wants to sweep but no luck.
Cantwell throwing strikes from guard but Beavis blocks nicely.
Cantwell stops Beavis from standing up.
Cantwell trying to control the position from guard on top but Beavis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Steve Cantwell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Cantwell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beavis is trying to maintain the position but Cantwell is very close to passing his half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cantwell stops Beavis from getting back to his feet.
Cantwell is controlling the pace.
Cantwell seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Beavis for as long as he can get away with.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Steve Cantwell.
Cantwell shoots for a double leg takedown but Beavis sprawls well. He's pushed Cantwell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Beavis takes the fight into the clinch.

Cantwell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cantwell looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Beavis tries to get to full guard but Cantwell has control of the leg.
Beavis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Cantwell is keen to just control but Beavis is a slippery customer.
Cantwell passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Beavis!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cantwell controlling from the full mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cantwell unloading with bombs!
Cantwell raining down shots from the mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cantwell prevents Beavis from getting the reversal.
Cantwell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Beavis's face.
Cantwell scoring with strikes but Beavis is staying in there.
Cantwell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Beavis is squirming around, avoiding Cantwell's attempts to control the action.
Cantwell fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cantwell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Beavis is looking to escape.
Cantwell controlling from mount.
Beavis tries to hold on but Cantwell postures up.

Beavis has left one of his arms exposed and Cantwell doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Beavis screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Steve Cantwell!
A very excited looking Steve Cantwell made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
