Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Markus Serdal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sven Wegscheider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Markus Serdal has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Markus Serdal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sven Wegscheider!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Serdal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sloppy strikes from Serdal. Those never looked like landing.
Serdal stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Serdal wants it to stay on the feet.
Wegscheider fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Serdal misses with a wild combination.
A leg kick checked by Wegscheider.
Wegscheider fails with the takedown.
Markus Serdal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sven Wegscheider.
A punch combination from Serdal misses.
Serdal looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wegscheider is looking to clinch.
Wegscheider should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Wegscheider will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

It looks like Sven Wegscheider has been cut.

Wegscheider dives in and scores a takedown into Serdal's guard.

Wegscheider throws a strike but Serdal rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Serdal thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wegscheider takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Serdal tries for a kimura but Wegscheider is defending well.

Serdal wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wegscheider, who protects the arm well.

Serdal tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Serdal has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wegscheider is trying to control Serdal's posture but Serdal avoids it.
Wegscheider is looking for a sweep.

Serdal goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Wegscheider has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Serdal but great work by Wegscheider.
Wegscheider wants to control but Serdal is keeping him busy.
Serdal managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Wegscheider.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Wegscheider is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Serdal is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Serdal is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wegscheider's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Serdal is looking to get back to is feet but Wegscheider passes into side control.
Serdal is looking for a sweep.
Serdal is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wegscheider asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Serdal manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wegscheider's best efforts.

Wegscheider looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's time! Serdal's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Markus Serdal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Serdal connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Wegscheider tries to clinch up but Serdal circles away and keeps his distance.

and Wegscheider counters with a shoot takedown. Serdal fights it but they end up in guard.
Wegscheider stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Serdal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sven Wegscheider has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wegscheider wants to get up but he can't break Serdal's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Serdal seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Markus Serdal wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Serdal closes the distance and pushes Wegscheider back into the cage.

Wegscheider tries to circle away but Serdal has him pinned against the cage.

Serdal has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Wegscheider is trying to keep an underhook but Serdal manages to get the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Serdal is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wegscheider has managed to free his arm - good work.

Serdal is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Serdal lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Serdal is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wegscheider wants to control but Serdal is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Serdal is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Serdal prevents Wegscheider from improving his position.
Serdal wants to advance to full mount but Wegscheider doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Serdal wants to pass the guard but Wegscheider is keeping the position.

Serdal stands and steps away. Wegscheider gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A combination from Serdal does no damage.
Serdal fails to land with a series of punches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Serdal scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Serdal throws a right hand that Wegscheider ducks under and follows up with a left that Wegscheider also avoids with ease.

Serdal tries to clinch but Wegscheider moves out of range.

Wegscheider trying to control the position from guard on top but Serdal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wegscheider is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wegscheider wants to control from the top but Serdal keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wegscheider postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Wegscheider is trying hard to land a takedown here. Serdal sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Serdal tries to bum rush Wegscheider with a series of wild strikes but Wegscheider uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Serdal here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Serdal avoids the attempt from Wegscheider to control.
Wegscheider stops Serdal from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Serdal lands a big shot there that rocks Wegscheider but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Serdal jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wegscheider manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wegscheider is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Wegscheider wants to control but Serdal postures up.
Wegscheider is looking to reverse the position.
Wegscheider is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Serdal has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Wegscheider is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Serdal yanks on the arm and Wegscheider is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Serdal.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Markus Serdal!
