PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hulk Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and LJ Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hogan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hulk Hogan. LJ Whitaker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Hulk Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, LJ Whitaker!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hogan is fending him off so far but Whitaker persists. Nope, Hogan circles away and we're back to standing.
Whitaker misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Whitaker fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Whitaker moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Whitaker gets a clinch.
Hogan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Whitaker smiles and moves away.

Hogan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Whitaker is staying active underneath Hogan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hogan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Whitaker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hogan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Still in half guard, Hogan seems content to control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Whitaker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hogan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Hogan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hogan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Whitaker can't keep his opponent in guard - Hogan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Whitaker has hold of Hogan's hands but Hogan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Whitaker can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hogan slips a nice elbow through Whitaker's hands, connecting with Whitaker's forehead.
Hogan works his foot free and advances to mount.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Whitaker wants to hold on but Hogan pushes him away.

The referee warns Whitaker that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Whitaker is in a horrible position here. Hogan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hogan postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Whitaker in real trouble here! The ref calls for Whitaker to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hulk Hogan!
