PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Zombie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Zombie!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zombie sprawls well initially but King persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

King is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Zombie has managed to free his arm - good work.
Zombie is staying active underneath King, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
King thows a huge punch but Zombie dodges it nicely.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
King with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zombie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Zombie looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zombie is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Zombie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
King is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
King's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

King seems to be looking for submissions.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
King is keen to just control but Zombie is a slippery customer.
Zombie looks like he's trying to stand up.
King slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ryan King.
King is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Zombie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Zombie keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

King drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and King jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Zombie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King passes into half guard.
King not landing any meaningful shots this time.
King is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
King lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan King dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

King fails with an attempt to clinch.
Zombie lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - King can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Zombie and King drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Zombie.
