PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cody Leigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubba Butternuts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cody Leigh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bubba Butternuts!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butternuts misses with a looping left.
Butternuts throws a body punch but Leigh moves out of range.
Leigh fails in his attempt to clinch.

Leigh shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Leigh was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Leigh could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Leigh throws some wild stikes that Butternuts manages to avoid easily.

Leigh goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Butternuts is on top in guard.

Butternuts decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cody Leigh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leigh dodges the punch combination from Butternuts.
Leigh takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Leigh is rocked!
Butternuts throws a nice looking combination but Leigh bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Leigh misses with a low kick.

Leigh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Leigh showed some decent athleticism there.

Leigh thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Butternuts's head.

Leigh is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Butternuts is just riding it out for now. Leigh eventually gives up the hold.
Leigh thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Leigh working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Leigh passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Butternuts!
Leigh lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Leigh throwing strikes here but Butternuts is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Butternuts really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Leigh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
BOOM! Leigh connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Leigh has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Leigh throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Leigh trying to control but Butternuts is having none of it.
Leigh lands a nice shot to the head.
Butternuts takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Leigh is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Butternuts is surviving well by controlling Leigh's body position as best he can.

Butternuts trying desperately to get to his feet.
Leigh throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Butternuts is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Leigh thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Butternuts is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Leigh has hold of Butternuts's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Butternuts manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Leigh goes for an armbar but Butternuts turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Butternuts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Leigh shoots in for a takedown but Butternuts shows good takedown defense.
Leigh fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Leigh closes the distance and clinches up with Butternuts, looking for a takedown. Leigh pushes Butternuts against the cage but Butternuts circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cody Leigh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Butternuts lands with an overhand left.
Leigh misses with a takedown attempt - Butternuts sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A jab lands there for Butternuts.
Oh Leigh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Leigh will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Leigh shoots for a takedown but Butternuts saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Leigh seems to have got his legs back now.

Leigh takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Leigh shoots in looking for a takedown. Butternuts tries to sprawl out of it but Leigh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Butternuts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Leigh shoots in and drives through. Butternuts sprawls well.
Leigh shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Butternuts pinned against the cage. Butternuts gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Butternuts lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Leigh drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Leigh has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Butternuts is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Leigh yanks on the arm and Butternuts is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Leigh.
