PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Amun Ra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jorge's choice of entrance music: Back in black. James Jorge told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Amun Ra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jorge!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ra closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jorge circles away.
Jorge scores with a jab to the body.

Ra looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Jorge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jorge looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ra looking to pass the guard.
Jorge wants to sweep here but Ra controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jorge is on top in guard.

Ra pushes Jorge off and scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jorge will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ra closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jorge did well to prevent Ra getting side control.
Jorge is looking to improve his position.
Jorge works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jorge lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ra!
Jorge looking to ground and pound but Ra is blocking nicely.

Jorge is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ra to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ra shrugs it off.

Jorge working for a submission but Ra is keeping him at bay.
Ra is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Jorge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ra is looking to escape.
Ra tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jorge lands a big elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jorge fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Ra wants to control but Jorge is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ra is trying to escape the mount.
Jorge looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ra working to try and regain half guard.
Jorge controlling from mount.
It looks like Jorge might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Jorge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ra is looking to escape.
Jorge has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ra is looking to improve his position but Jorge isn't that keen on the idea.
Jorge wants to control the pace but Ra is squirming around nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jorge with shots to the head and body - Ra looks very uncomfortable down there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jorge scores with a couple of good head shots there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jorge goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ra turns into him and now he's in Jorge's guard.
Ra wants to control from the top but Jorge keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Jorge dominated that round.
That's time! Ra's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A combination from Jorge does no damage.
Jorge takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Jorge throws a series of punches but Ra moves out of range.
Jorge doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ra counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ra prevents Jorge from improving his position.
Jorge is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Ra is thwarting Jorge's attempts to control the position.
Jorge wants to get back to full guard.
Ra missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Jorge is looking to improve his position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ra connects with a nice short shot to Jorge's temple.

Ra is pressing down on Jorge's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jorge is holding on for now.
Ra passes the guard and advances to mount!
James Jorge has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ra sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Jorge wants to get back to his feet.
Ra lands a big shot there that rocks Jorge but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Jorge tries to reverse the position but Ra maintains control.
Jorge is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
A nice elbow there by Ra.


It looks like James Jorge has been cut.
Jorge wants to control but Ra is having none of it.
Jorge wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jorge is looking to get to half guard.
Jorge tries to hold on but Ra postures up.
Jorge really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Ra scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Jorge?

Poor strikes thrown by Ra there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Ra lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Jorge is rocked!
Ra unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Jorge wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Ra celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Amun Ra!
