PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Noriega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slopey Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Noriega comes to the cage accompanied by GO TO SLEEP. Smith has chosen Hank Williams Jr - A Country Boy Can Survive as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Orlando Noriega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Slopey Smith!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noriega throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smith lands with an overhand left.
Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Noriega.
Smith throws a jab when Noriega was well out of range.
Noriega misses the shot to the body.
Smith throws a leg kick but Noriega sees it coming and moves out of range.
Noriega checks a leg kick.
Smith misses with a body shot.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into Noriega's guard.
Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Noriega is keeping the position for now.
Noriega has Smith pulled in close to control his posture.
Noriega working a defensive guard but Smith passes into half guard.

Noriega wants to get back to full guard.
Smith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Noriega defending well though.
Noriega wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Noriega is trying to control but can't.
Noriega is looking to get back to full guard here but Smith has managed to pass to side control instead.
Noriega manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smith's best efforts.

Smith throwing shots but Noriega is blocking nicely.
Smith tries to pass the half guard into mount. Noriega knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control.
Smith passes into side control, despite Noriega's attempt to control the position.
Noriega struggling a bit here.
Smith looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Noriega is avoiding damage well.
Noriega is looking for a sweep.

Smith is looking to take a break and control but Noriega is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith working the ground and pound from side control.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slopey Smith dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Noriega, right into the meat.
Noriega fails to land with a series of punches.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Smith. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Noriega avoids the head kick by Smith.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Noriega throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Smith slips under a jab.
Noriega throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Noriega lands a nice looking body kick.
Noriega looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Noriega.
Noriega takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Smith avoids the head kick by Noriega.
Smith uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Noriega.

Noriega throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smith sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
A chopping leg kick lands by Noriega.
Noriega fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
A slapping body kick lands there for Noriega.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Noriega throws the kick towards the body but Smith avoids it.
A slapping leg kick lands for Noriega.
Noriega paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith throws a lazy right hand but Noriega sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Noriega.
Noriega lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Smith at a distance.
Noriega misses with a wild body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Noriega throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Noriega attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Noriega throws a looping overhand right but Smith ducks down to avoid it.
Smith takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Smith walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Noriega throws a leg kick
and Smith counters with a nice low kick that buckles Noriega's knee momentarily.

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Noriega sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Noriega is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Noriega is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Noriega is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Noriega wants to get back to full guard.

Smith is working for an americana but Noriega has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Smith was thinking about the submission.
Smith forces his way into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Noriega is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith tries to pass the half guard into mount. Noriega knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Noriega has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Orlando Noriega dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Noriega throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.
Some bone on bone action there as Smith checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Smith throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Noriega takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Smith looks for the body kick but Noriega saw that one coming.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Noriega. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Noriega displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
Smith drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Smith fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Noriega on the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Noriega connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Smith checks a leg kick.
Smith throws a leg kick that is checked
and Noriega counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Noriega throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Both fighters circling a little - Noriega finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Noriega stuns Smith with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Oooooh!!! Noriega has knocked Smith down with a huge combo! Noriega steps away and waves a wobbly Smith back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Smith is rocked!


It looks like Slopey Smith has been cut.
Noriega connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Smith covering up! Noriega comes in with a big uppercut and Smith goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Orlando Noriega!
Orlando Noriega very nearly forgot to thank Conviction amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
