PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rambo Kawajiri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlo Recto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rambo Kawajiri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carlo Recto!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kawajiri gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kawajiri wants to sweep here but Recto controlling him for the moment.
Kawajiri bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Recto's guard.
Kawajiri is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kawajiri pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Recto is keeping the position for now.
Recto wants to stand and escape but Kawajiri is having none of it.
Recto is trying to control the position but Kawajiri postures up.
Kawajiri slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Recto is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rambo Kawajiri has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Kawajiri manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Recto on his heels. He'll look to pass Recto's guard now, I'm sure.
Kawajiri pushes down on Recto's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kawajiri with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Recto tries to get to full guard but Kawajiri has control of the leg.

Kawajiri is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Recto sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kawajiri perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rambo Kawajiri.

and Recto decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kawajiri's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kawajiri is looking to stand up but Recto isn't so interested in that idea.
Recto wants to control from the top but Kawajiri keeps moving.
Recto looking to sit in guard and control but Kawajiri gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kawajiri's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kawajiri controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kawajiri trying to control the position from guard on top but Recto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Recto throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Kawajiri wants to control from the top but Recto keeps moving.

Kawajiri gets to his feet - Recto follows without any prompting.
Kawajiri shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Recto defends it nicely.

Recto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kawajiri manages to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Recto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Recto thows a huge punch but Kawajiri dodges it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kawajiri regains full guard. Nicely done.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Recto trying to control but Kawajiri is working from the bottom.
Kawajiri is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Recto is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rambo Kawajiri will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kawajiri fails with a takedown attempt.
Carlo Recto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Recto tries to clinch up.
Kawajiri has his takedown stuffed
and Recto counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Recto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Recto wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rambo Kawajiri. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Recto clinches up with Kawajiri and pushes him back against the cage.

Kawajiri is fighting off a takedown attempt but Recto is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kawajiri to the mat. Kawajiri regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Recto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kawajiri is on top in guard.
Kawajiri prevents Recto from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kawajiri thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kawajiri trying to control the position from guard on top but Recto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Recto trying to keep a closed guard but Kawajiri is proving a slippery customer.

Recto is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kawajiri is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rambo Kawajiri wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Recto manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kawajiri on his heels. He'll look to pass Kawajiri's guard now, I'm sure.

Kawajiri sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Recto's guard.

Kawajiri with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Kawajiri is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Recto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Recto shrugs it off.

Kawajiri is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Recto is surviving well by controlling Kawajiri's body position as best he can.
Kawajiri can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Recto is looking to escape.
Recto is looking to get to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rambo Kawajiri dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Kawajiri shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Recto napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kawajiri has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Recto!
BOOM! Kawajiri connects with a massive shot to the dome!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Recto can do anything to dispel that myth.
Recto is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kawajiri controlling the pace for now.
Kawajiri wants to control the pace but Recto is squirming around nicely.
Recto tries to reverse the position but Kawajiri maintains control.

Recto is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Kawajiri will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kawajiri looking to control and managing it successfully.

Kawajiri is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Nice sprawl there from Recto as Kawajiri shoots in.

Recto gets a double leg takedown into Kawajiri's guard.
Kawajiri is trying to keep Recto in close.
Recto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kawajiri swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kawajiri scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Kawajiri fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kawajiri shoots for a double leg takedown but Recto sprawls well. He's pushed Kawajiri's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rambo Kawajiri. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Recto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Recto is looking to work some ground and pound but Kawajiri has wrist control.

Recto stands up over Kawajiri, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Kawajiri looking to hit a scissor sweep but Recto is one step ahead there.

Kawajiri pushes Recto off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Carlo Recto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Recto connects with a looping right hand.


It looks like Rambo Kawajiri has been cut.
Kawajiri fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Recto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Recto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Recto is stalling in the full guard.

Recto might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kawajiri kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Carlo Recto.

Carlo Recto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Recto throws a head kick that misses.
Rambo Kawajiri is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Recto lands with a right hand.

Carlo Recto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kawajiri has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
