Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Sandman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Davidson!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandman throws a body punch but Davidson moves out of range.
Sandman misses with the combination.
Sandman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Davidson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sandman misses with a few strikes there.
Sandman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Davidson is defended easily by Sandman.
Sandman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sandman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Davidson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sandman.
Davidson dodges the punch combination from Sandman.
Sandman misses with a jab, cross combination.

Davidson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Davidson is looking to pass Sandman's guard but actually Sandman recovers to full guard.

Davidson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sandman, up you get!
Sandman wants to slow Davidson down by chopping away at his legs.

A clash of legs there as Davidson blocks the low kick.
Sandman misses with the combination.
Sandman is breathing heavily.

Davidson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sandman tries to improve position but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Davidson passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Sandman!

It looks like Davidson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Davidson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sandman tries to bum rush Davidson with a series of wild strikes but Davidson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Davidson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Davidson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Davidson slips nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sandman wants to get back to full guard.
Davidson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Davidson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Davidson is taking a breather. Sandman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Let's hope that Davidson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sandman is looking for a sweep. Davidson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Johnny Davidson has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Johnny Davidson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Davidson ducks right into an uppercut from Sandman.
Jimmy Sandman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Davidson throws a push kick but Sandman slaps the foot to one side.
Nice sprawl there from Sandman as Davidson shoots in.
Sandman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Sandman does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Jimmy Sandman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Davidson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Davidson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Davidson lands with some strikes.
Davidson scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Davidson throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Sandman wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Davidson.

Davidson is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Sandman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Davidson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sandman is trying to defend but Davidson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Davidson in particular looking to stall.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davidson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Davidson controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Davidson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Sandman misses with a takedown attempt - Davidson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sandman throws a series of punches but Davidson moves out of range.
Sandman swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Sandman digs a good body shot into Davidson's ribs.

Davidson gets to his feet - Sandman follows without any prompting.

Davidson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sandman on his heels. He'll look to pass Sandman's guard now, I'm sure.
Davidson wants to control from the top but Sandman keeps moving.

Davidson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johnny Davidson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Davidson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sandman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davidson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sandman bucks up and tries to throw Davidson off but instead Davidson has got his back!
Davidson controls the position.
Jimmy Sandman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Davidson is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Sandman has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Davidson has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Sandman taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Davidson doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Johnny Davidson!
