PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Currie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mordecai Wollsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Currie kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Helmet - Just Another Victim. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Currie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mordecai Wollsey!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wollsey leaves Currie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wollsey blocks a head kick by Currie.
Currie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wollsey pinned against the cage. Wollsey gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wollsey misses with an attempted mid kick.
Currie bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Wollsey's head.
A jab lands there for Wollsey.
Currie scores with a hook to the body. Wollsey takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Wollsey throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Wollsey throws a hook but Currie avoids it easily.
Wollsey misses with a kick to the body.
Currie misses with a straight left.
Wollsey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Currie uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wollsey.
Wollsey misses with a leg kick.
Currie clobbers Wollsey with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Currie swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Wollsey fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Wollsey throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Good leg kick by Currie there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Currie throws a series of punches but Wollsey avoids them all with ease.
Wollsey lands with a kick to the ribs.
Currie throws a head kick but Wollsey moves out of range.
Wollsey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Currie was well out of range. Poor timing from Wollsey.
Currie misses with the combination.
Wollsey throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Currie counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Wollsey thows a body shot but no joy.

Wollsey clinches up against the cage.
Currie lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Wollsey backwards.
A frustrated look appears on Wollsey's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Currie throws a head punch that misses.

Wollsey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wollsey misses with a head kick.

Currie thows a body shot but no joy.
Currie throws a lazy uppercut
letting Wollsey counter with a right hand.
Wollsey doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wollsey uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Currie.
Wollsey goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Currie fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wollsey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wollsey darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A big left from Wollsey misses.
Wollsey shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Currie throws a jab when Wollsey was well out of range.
Currie fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Wollsey checks it well.
Mordecai Wollsey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wollsey pushes Currie up against the cage in a clinch.
Wollsey tries to throw a body punch but Currie avoids it by throwing Wollsey back against the cage.
Currie keeps control of Wollsey as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Nice elbow from Currie.
Currie lands a body shot.
Currie can't find room to land a body shot as Wollsey controls the action.

Currie goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Wollsey managing to block the knees to the body from Currie.
Currie tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Wollsey's elbow.

Wollsey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wollsey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wollsey wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Currie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wollsey just misses with a punch to the body.
Wollsey takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Wollsey has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Currie.

Currie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Currie cracks Wollsey with a big right hand but Wollsey just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Currie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Currie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wollsey can't do much from the bottom here.
Wollsey gets back to half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Currie throwing shots but Wollsey is blocking nicely.
Currie is trying to control the action in half guard but Wollsey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wollsey landing strikes from the bottom.
Wollsey is not content to let Currie control the position.
Wollsey tries to roll over but Currie keeps him under control.
Wollsey holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Currie is just content to waste time from the top position. Wollsey takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that David Currie will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Currie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Currie catches Wollsey with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Wollsey misses with an uppercut. Currie saw that one coming.
Currie keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Currie swats away the attempt to clinch by Wollsey.

Currie throws a leg kick but Wollsey sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Currie lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wollsey circles away quickly and effectively.

Wollsey throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wollsey fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Currie manages to avoid it.
