PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jessie Mach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kalle Raisi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kalle Raisi!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mach connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mach throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mach enables Raisi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mach manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Raisi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Raisi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mach's head.

Mach is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Raisi defends well.

Mach is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Raisi is aware though and is defending well.

Raisi postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mach is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Raisi, into his guard.
Raisi pulls Mach in to control the position.
Raisi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mach is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Raisi scores with a couple of nice shots.
Raisi wants to free his trapped foot but Mach is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Raisi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Raisi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mach dives on top into guard.
Raisi is trying to keep Mach in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Raisi seems keen to control Mach's posture.
Mach trying to control the position from guard on top but Raisi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Raisi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Raisi keeping moving, preventing Mach from controlling successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Raisi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mach misses with a combination

and Raisi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mach wants to improve his position but Raisi is controlling well.
Raisi wants to take a breather but Mach is having none of it.
Raisi tries to pass to full mount but Mach defends it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Raisi lands a nice short elbow.

Raisi is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mach reverses the position - he's now on top in Raisi's guard.

Raisi can't keep his opponent in guard - Mach advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Raisi is pressing down on Mach's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Raisi is pulling down on Mach's head. It's preventing any offense from Mach, at least for the moment.
Mach would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Raisi looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mach looking to sit in guard and control but Raisi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Raisi wants to control from the top but Mach keeps moving.

Mach is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Raisi is pushing down on Mach's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mach is fighting to maintain full guard but Raisi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Raisi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Raisi is just content to waste time from the top position. Mach takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Raisi stands up over Mach, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Mach is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mach working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Raisi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Raisi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kalle Raisi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Mach lands a nice hook to Raisi's body. Raisi takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Raisi moves in looking to clinch but Mach pushes him off.
Raisi wants to clinch up but Mach keeps it at a distance.
Mach dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Raisi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mach sprawls well. Mach wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Raisi gets slowly back to his feet.

Mach fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Raisi manages to avoid it.
Mach throws a series of punches but Raisi avoids them all with ease.
Raisi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mach.

Raisi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mach as he avoids it easily.

Raisi gets a clinch.
Mach wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Raisi has him pressed against the cage.

Raisi tries to pull guard but Mach won't allow it.
Jessie Mach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kalle Raisi.
Mach wants to break free but Raisi has control.
Mach struggles to land a body shot inside as Raisi controls his hands.

Mach is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Mach tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Raisi's elbow.
Raisi keeps control of Mach as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Mach looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Mach seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Raisi is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Maybe Mach would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much.

Raisi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Raisi motions for Mach to come forward. Raisi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Raisi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Raisi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mach on his heels. He'll look to pass Mach's guard now, I'm sure.

Raisi misses with a left hand
and Mach counters with a series of strikes. Raisi will be more careful next time no doubt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kalle Raisi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Raisi shoots in and bounces Mach off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mach is looking for a triangle here but Raisi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Raisi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mach has escaped the position, nice work there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jessie Mach showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Raisi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
