PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ross Ridpath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Axel Lenogue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lenogue looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ridpath is fending him off so far but Lenogue persists. Nope, Ridpath circles away and we're back to standing.
Lenogue leaves Ridpath with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ridpath shoots in and bounces Lenogue off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Ridpath wants to work for an arm triangle but Lenogue is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ridpath connects with a nice short shot to Lenogue's temple.

Ridpath is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lenogue defends it well.

Lenogue shoots in looking for a takedown but Ridpath manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lenogue's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ross Ridpath has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Axel Lenogue.

Ridpath tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ridpath has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Lenogue sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Ridpath tries to bum rush Lenogue with a series of wild strikes but Lenogue uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ridpath closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Ridpath postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Lenogue on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Lenogue doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
