The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shokhzodayev with a lazy takedown attempt

so Hummel counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Shokhzodayev controls Hummel momentarily but Hummel frees himself.
Shokhzodayev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shokhzodayev is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hummel is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Shokhzodayev will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hummel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hummel passes Shokhzodayev's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Shokhzodayev is trying to control but Hummel manages to pass to mount!

Hummel lands a heavy elbow.
Hummel landing strikes from the mount and Shokhzodayev is in trouble!

Shokhzodayev takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Hummel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shokhzodayev wants to control but Hummel is having none of it.

Hummel lands a big shot there that rocks Shokhzodayev but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Hummel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Shokhzodayev tries to lock up and control but Hummel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
