PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Base (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Machine Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machine Man told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Base!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Machine Man!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Franklyn Lucas and David Schapiro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Man closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Man lands in his opponent's guard.
Man pushing down on Base's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Man works his foot free and advances to mount.
Base keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Man looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Man takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Man looks gassed!
Man is trying to stick to Base's back but Base is turning into Man. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Man's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Base.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Base stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Man swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Man lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Base!

Man moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Base has worked his arm free - good work by Base!
Base pushes Man away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Man gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Base is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Man's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Man is looking for a kimura but Base is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Man to get the leverage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Base is looking to control Man's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Base avoid being mounted?
Base is staying active underneath Man, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Man moves into full mount! Base won't be happy about that!

Man jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Base manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Base is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Man frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Man is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Base is surviving well by controlling Man's body position as best he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Base tries to hold on but Man postures up.

Man is working for a guillotine from mount but Base frees his head quite easily.
Base is in all sorts of trouble here.
Base wants to try and get back to his feet.
Base could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Base is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Base is controlling an arm, preventing Man from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Base is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Man is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Base can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Base is desperately trying to improve his position but Man has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Machine Man dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Man doesn't manage to clinch there - Base circles away.
Base throws a nice looking combination but Man bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Man shoots in looking for a takedown. Base tries to sprawl out of it but Man keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Base manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Base misses with a few strikes there.
Man throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rob Base is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Base tests Man's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Base connects with a nice looking jab.
Man tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Base attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Base tries a head kick but it misses.
Base lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Man avoids a kick to the body.
Base throws a sloppy head kick and Man moves out of range easily.
Man closes this distance looking for a takedown but Base circles away.
Man is breathing heavily.
Base moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Some wild striking there from Base.
Base misses with a double jab.
Good shot there by Base.

Man is rocked!
Base dances in with a quick combination. Man is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Base snaps Man's head back. Man stumbles backwards against the cage. Base steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Man's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Man just didn't come prepared.
