PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Grady Meyers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Meyers might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Fucked Jam by Ween. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grady Meyers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Chase!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Meyers fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Meyers shoots in for a double leg but Chase sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Meyers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chase tries to avoid it but Meyers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chase to the ground. Chase escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chase closes the distance and pushes Meyers back into the cage.

Chase works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Meyers wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meyers is working hard here to advance position.
Chase controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Chase throwing strikes from guard but Meyers blocks nicely.
Chase trying to control but Meyers is working from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Michael Chase hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Chase will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Chase gets a takedown into half guard.
Meyers trying to control from the bottom.
Meyers wants to improve his position but Chase is controlling well.
Chase wants to pass the guard but Meyers is defending well.
Meyers tries to get to full guard but Chase has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chase is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Meyers wants to get back to full guard.

Chase is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Meyers sees it coming and defends easily.
Chase wants to take a breather but Meyers is having none of it.
Chase slips a nice elbow through Meyers's hands, connecting with Meyers's forehead.

Chase stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Meyers counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Chase looks gassed!

Chase is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chase won't allow Meyers to pass to mount.
Meyers prevents Chase from improving his position.
Chase is not content to let Meyers control the position.
Meyers tries to stand but can't do so whilst Chase controls his leg.
Meyers with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Grady Meyers just wasn't active enough.
Chase fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Meyers tries to clinch

and Chase moves into the clinch.
Meyers wants to break free but Chase has control.
Chase can't get the takedown.
Grady Meyers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Chase.
Chase wants a takedown but no success here.
Meyers landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Meyers is trying to drag Chase to the mat but Chase just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Meyers jumps into guard, dragging Chase to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Michael Chase will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Chase shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Meyers but Meyers pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Meyers is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chase shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Meyers pinned against the cage. Meyers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Meyers counters with a shoot takedown. Chase fights it but they end up in guard.

Meyers wants to pass the guard but Chase is keeping the position.
Chase looking to control.

Chase has his foot on Meyers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Meyers works his way back into a safe position though.

Meyers is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Chase is breathing heavily.
Meyers wants to control from the top but Chase keeps moving.

Meyers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Meyers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Chase is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Chase isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Meyers stacks Chase on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Meyers!
The strikes coming from Meyers are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Chase tries to buck Meyers off but Meyers is having none of it.

Meyers stands up and beckons Chase to his feet.

and Meyers counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chase!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chase is squirming around, avoiding Meyers's attempts to control the action.

Chase blocking the ground and pound.
Chase tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Meyers tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chase keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Meyers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Meyers with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Chase keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Meyers is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Meyers connects with a big shot to the side of Chase's head.

You can see the frustration on Chase's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Chase takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Meyers throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Chase holding both Meyers 's hands and preventing any damage.

Chase defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Chase tries to roll but Meyers sticks to his back.

Chase tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Poor strikes thrown by Meyers there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Chase is concentrating on defense, preventing Meyers from advancing position.
Chase is looking to get back to full guard here but Meyers has managed to pass to side control instead.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

I think Meyers has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
