Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leandro Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicolas Refn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the cage accompanied by Thin Lizzy - Angel of Death. Leandro Alves has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Leandro Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nicolas Refn!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves closes the distance and clinches up with Refn, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes Refn against the cage but Refn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Refn tries to clinch but Alves moves away
and Alves counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Refn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Refn gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Refn is trying to break the clinch but Alves is controlling him.
Refn is pressed up against the cage. Alves has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Refn down to the mat. Refn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Refn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Refn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Refn.
Refn shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Refn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Refn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Alves gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves regains full guard. Nicely done.

Alves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Refn defends well.

Refn with a flurry of punches that miss.
Refn stands up over Alves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Refn with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Refn cracks Alves with a solid left hand.
Alves utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alves preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Refn stands up over Alves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Alves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Refn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Refn trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Refn is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Alves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Refn defends well.

Alves avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Alves isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Refn stacks Alves on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Refn!

Alves managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Refn.
Alves is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Alves is refusing to be controlled, as Refn sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nicolas Refn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Refn shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Alves avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Refn.
Refn is just content to waste time from the top position. Alves takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Refn got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Refn has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted.

Alves utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Refn makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Refn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Alves is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Refn wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.
Refnis looking to pass into half guard but Alves pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Alves is in guard.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Refn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Refn manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Refn's guard.

Refn is looking for a triangle but Alves pushes his legs off easily.
Alves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Refn is keeping the position for now.
Alves is working hard here to advance position.
Refn wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Nicolas Refn will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Alves is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Refn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alves swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alves has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Refn doesn't defend quickly enough and Alves has managed to lock this one up! Can Refn escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Alves on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Leandro Alves!
During a confident post fight interview, Leandro Alves thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
