Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hamish Gaffney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Wakefield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dean Wakefield has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Hamish Gaffney's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dean Wakefield!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wakefield misses with a looping right.
The fighters circling - Wakefield throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gaffney swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gaffney shoots in for a double leg but Wakefield sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wakefield throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Gaffney counters with a series of strikes. Wakefield will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gaffney fails with a takedown attempt.
Gaffney bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gaffney moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Gaffney feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wakefield pushes Gaffney away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gaffney gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Gaffney remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Gaffney seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wakefield for as long as he can get away with.
