Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hope Solo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hope Solo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Solo rushes Diaz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz is trying to maintain a safe position but Solo gets an underhook and turns Diaz into the cage.
Diaz wants to get back to striking at distance but Solo won't allow it.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Solo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Diaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Solo tries to avoid it but Diaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Solo to the ground. Solo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Solo misses with a right hand

and Diaz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Solo!
Solo wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Solo is desperately trying to improve his position but Diaz has a good base and remains in mount.
Diaz blocks Solo's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Solo is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Solo is working hard here to advance position.
Diaz trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Solo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Solo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Solo blocking the ground and pound attempt from Diaz.
Solo is looking to control Diaz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Solo avoid being mounted?
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Solo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Solo gets back to full guard.
Solo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Solo has control of Diaz's left arm, preventing Diaz from doing any damage.
Solo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Diaz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Solo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Carlos Diaz.
Diaz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Solo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Diaz somewhat.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Solo as he avoids it easily.
Hope Solo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Diaz.
No luck for Diaz with that takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Solo connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Diaz manages to pull guard.
Solo wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.

and Diaz counters with a stiff right hand.
Solo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Solo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Diaz tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Diaz lands a right hook to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Solo as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed right hand from Solo misses the target.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Solo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Solo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.

Solo jumps guard and drags Diaz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

That was a close round but I would say that Hope Solo will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Solo. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.

Solo closes the distance and clinches.
Solo lands with a right to the head.

Solo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Diaz uses from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Solo holds on and takes a little breather.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Diaz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Solo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Diaz after a bit of a struggle.

Diaz gets control of Solo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diaz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hope Solo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Diaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Solo's guard.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Solo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Solo's legs - danger averted.

Hope Solo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Solo loads up on a big right hand but Diaz slips the punch.

Well Solo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
