PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jani Sormunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kane Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes moves into the clinch.
Sormunen is trying to break free.

Sormunen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hughes manages to break the clinch.
Sormunen misses with a kick to the body.
Hughes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sormunen swivels and escapes.
Jani Sormunen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sormunen throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily.

Hughes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sormunen, pushing him back against the cage.
Hughes has Sormunen pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sormunen manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sormunen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hughes just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sormunen wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hughes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sormunen throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily.

Sormunen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Hughes can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes stops Sormunen from passing to mount.
Hughes tries to improve position but can't.
Sormunen throws a strike aimed at the side of Hughes's head but Hughes avoids it well.
Hughes wants to get back to his feet.

Sormunen is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Hughes is trying to escape and Sormunen transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Hughes is forced to tap! Nice work there by Sormunen! Very nice indeed!
