PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Bond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason Stone will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Stone!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone keeps the fight on the outside.
Stone misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bond is looking to clinch but Stone is avoiding it.
Bond tries to clinch but Stone moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Stone or perhaps it was just good defense by Bond which made him look bad.
Stone fails with the takedown.
James Bond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mason Stone.

Bond has taken the fight to the clinch.
Bond tries a knee to the head but Stone blocks it.
Bond misses with a knee strike.
Stone can't get the takedown.
Bond lands a left hand.
Bond lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Bond looking to throw knees to the head but Stone is blocking nicely.

Stone successfully pulls guard.

Stone escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bond gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bond is one step ahead there.
Bond stays in close to Stone's body and controls the position.

Bond trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
Bond will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Bond stands up from Stone's guard - Bond perhaps looking for a knockout.

Stone feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Bond is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Stone slips nicely into half guard.
Bond on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Stone seems to be working for a kimura but Bond defends the submission attempt.
Bond trying to hold on to Stone's head to control him but Stone postures up.

Stone is working for a submission of some sort.
Stone looks gassed!
Bond works his way to full guard. Good work.
Stone throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bond is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stone accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bond wants to stand up but Stone is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone forces his way into half guard.
Stone is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Bond!
Bond wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Stone.
Bond really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Stone has control of Bond's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bond regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Bond can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bond tries to hold on but Stone pushes him away.

Stone is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bond can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Bond regains half guard.

Bond is defending against the submission attempts here by Stone.

Bond kicks off Stone and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mason Stone will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bond tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stone swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stone circles away from the clinch attempt.
Stone looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bond is fending him off so far but Stone persists. Nope, Bond circles away and we're back to standing.
Bond slips a jab and a cross from Stone.
Bond tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bond fails in his attempt to clinch.

Stone has closed the distance and engaged Bond in a clinch.
Bond tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Stone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bond smiles and moves away.

Stone gets a takedown into half guard.
Stone is tying to control. Bond wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Bond is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Stone slips a nice elbow through Bond's hands, connecting with Bond's forehead.
Bond avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Stone.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stone is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Stone looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bond with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stone wants to pass to mount but Bond is defending the position.
Bond avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Stone.
Bond is trying to get back to full guard.
Bond trying to control but Stone postures up.

Stone is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stone shoots in for a double leg but Bond sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stone shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bond pinned against the cage. Bond gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Bond closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bond with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Stone is working for takedown but Bond is calmly controlling the position for now.

Bond tries a knee to the head but Stone blocks it.
Bond lands a knee to the head.
Stone is trying to break the clinch but Bond has him pressed against the cage.
Bond lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Stone is working for takedown but Bond is calmly controlling the position for now.

Stone drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Stone closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Stone working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Stone is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bond knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bond is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bond has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Bond tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stone looking to pass the guard.
Bond is pulling down on Stone's head to control his posture.

Stone tries to free his leg and advance position but Bond is retaining full guard.
Stone forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stone wants to work for an arm triangle but Bond is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mason Stone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stone is tying to control. Bond wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Stone is working for a submission of some sort.
Stone seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stone missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stone frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Stone cracks Bond with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
James Bond has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bond keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stone lands a nice shot to the head.

Stone is working for a guillotine from mount but Bond frees his head quite easily.
Stone raining down shots from the mount!
Bond is trying desperately to improve position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Stone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Stone winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
