PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clay Guida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Straub (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clay Guida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Todd Straub!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Straub misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Guida gets a clinch.

Straub's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Guida feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Straub keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Straub steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Guida.
Guida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Straub sprawls well. Straub wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guida gets slowly back to his feet.

Guida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Straub is looking to stand up but Guida isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Guida changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Straub fights it off and pushes away nicely.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Straub counters with a three punch combo that has Guida backing up. Guida nods at Straub to acknowledge the strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Clay Guida will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Guida is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Guida has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Todd Straub wasn't active enough on the ground.

Guida prevents the takedown attempt.
Guida goes for a takedown in the clinch but Straub prevents it.

Guida has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Straub is trying to keep an underhook but Guida manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Guida winds up and cracks Straub with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Straub wants to control but Guida is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Guida in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Straub tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Guida!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Clay Guida!
Clay Guida decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
