PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikko Neva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Neva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Randy West!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neva takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Neva uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by West.
Neva gets cracked there but stands up to it.
West bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Neva's head backwards.
Neva takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Neva gets the takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
West is looking to regain half guard here but Neva keeps moving and retains side control.
West is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on West's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by West, who protects the arm well.

Neva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Neva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neva trying to control the position but West is working away.
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Neva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neva tries for a kimura but West is defending well.

Neva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. West knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
West is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on West's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
West tries to escape but Neva is in control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Neva tries for a kimura but West is defending well.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Neva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
West is trying to improve his position.
West is trying to control Neva's posture but Neva avoids it.
West manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Neva works his way to full guard. Good work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
West content to stall in guard here.

West got a little sloppy there for a moment and Neva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, West has managed to get both his arms back between Neva's legs - danger averted.
Neva is breathing heavily.
West wants to stand but Neva is controlling his posture from full guard.

West gets to his feet. Neva looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Neva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. West did well to prevent Neva getting side control.
West tries to roll over but Neva keeps him under control.

Neva is working for a kimura but West is defending it quite comfortably.
West slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
West is trying to control the position but Neva postures up.
West bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Neva's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Neva throws his legs up looking for a submission but West uses it to pass to side control.

West stands up.
West bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Neva's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
West throws an overhand right that lands on Neva's shoulder, as Neva tries to avoid the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy West dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


West scores with a shot to the body.
West moves into range and connects with a jab.
West ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Neva.
Neva has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Randy West seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
West misses with a double jab.
West misses with a jab, cross combination.
Neva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts West, as that shot connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Neva is rocked!
Randy West seems to be getting the better of the standup.
West stuns Neva with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Oh Neva is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mikko Neva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neva takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Neva seems to have got his legs back now.
Neva avoids the head kick by West.
West thuds a left hand into Neva's body.
West bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Neva's head backwards.
Nice shot lands for West.
West throws a nice inside leg kick.
Neva shoots in and drives through. West sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikko Neva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
West scores with a punch to the head.
West batters Neva with a massive right followed by a huge left! Neva is out on his feet looking like a zombie as West lands a final crushing right hand to drop Neva to the mat with a gruesome thud! West is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Randy West!
Randy West bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
