PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Girevoy Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buzz Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sawyer is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I Gotta Get Paid. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Girevoy Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Buzz Sawyer!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sawyer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khan's waist but Khan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sawyer off to one side.
Sawyer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Khan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sawyer has his foot on Khan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Khan works his way back into a safe position though.

Khan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sawyer sprawls well initially but Khan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sawyer wants to get back to full guard but Khan has passed into side control.
Khan tries to control but Sawyer wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Khan lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sawyer backs up against the cage.

Sawyer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sawyer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sawyer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sawyer is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Khan to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Sawyeris looking to pass into half guard but Khan pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Khan is in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buzz Sawyer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Khan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
