PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shavo Odin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenrick Nikil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nikil has chosen Wait and Bleed by Slipknot as his entrance music. Kenrick Nikil is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shavo Odin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenrick Nikil!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Odin loads up on a big right hand but Nikil slips the punch.
Odin cracks the inside of Nikil's front leg.
Odin throws a head kick that misses.
Odin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nikil avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Odin clinches up against the cage.
Nikil has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Odin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Odin breaks the clinch.
Odin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nikil manages to avoid it.
A big left from Nikil misses.
Odin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fight stays on the outside here - Odin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

It looks like Kenrick Nikil has been cut.
Odin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Shavo Odin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Odin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Odin lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Nikil has momentary wrist control but Odin slips an elbow through the middle.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nikil can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nikil wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Odin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nikil turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nikil manages to end up in side control.

Odin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nikil gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Odin pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Odin slips a jab and a cross from Nikil.
A jab lands there for Odin.
Odin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nikil.
Odin misses with a double jab
and Nikil connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Odin throws a hook but Nikil avoids it easily.

Odin gets a double leg takedown into Nikil's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nikil must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Odin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nikil does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Odin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Odin is looking to work some ground and pound but Nikil has wrist control.
Odin looking to sit in guard and control but Nikil gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shavo Odin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Odin misses with an uppercut. Nikil saw that one coming.
Nikil takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Nikil displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Odin throws out the jab.
Odin shoots in for a double leg but Nikil sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Odin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Nikil counters with a nice uppercut.

Odin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Nikil has time to react.
Odin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Odin looks to land a left hand but Nikil moved out of range nicely.

Nikil shoots in and gets a takedown into Odin's guard.

Odin is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Nikil rolls with it to try and escape but Odin cranks on the arm and Nikil is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Shavo Odin really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that BioPharm Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
