Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Maia is looking to score with low kicks.

and Maia counters with a shoot takedown. Ruiz fights it but they end up in guard.

Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruiz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maia shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Maia was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maia stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Maia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Maia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruiz for as long as he can get away with.

Maia creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ruiz sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Ruiz is trying to get back to half guard.
Maia landing a few strikes.
Maia advances to full mount.
Maia lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Maia tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ruiz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia looking to control and managing it successfully.
Maia moves to take his opponent's back.

Maia is persistently looking for the submission but Ruiz is defending it well.

Ruiz is trying to defend against the choke here but Maia has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Maia Tightens the hold and Ruiz taps out furiously! Maia displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Demian Maia!
Our winner, Demian Maia, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
