PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sho Kosugi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kosugi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Gonna Slap a Pimp. Morgan has chosen Sherry Monocle as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sho Kosugi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simon Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morgan throws a low kick but Kosugi avoids it.
Morgan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Kosugi ducks under a wild hook from Morgan.
Morgan blocks a jab.
Morgan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kosugi throws a leg kick
and Morgan counters with a slapping leg kick.
Morgan moves away from the strike by Kosugi.
Kosugi misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Morgan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Morgan lands a head kick. Kosugi smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Kosugi shoots in and drives through. Morgan sprawls well.
Kosugi looks for a takedown but Morgan sprawls well.

Morgan is squirming around, avoiding Kosugi's attempts to control the action.
Morgan wants to hold on but Kosugi pushes him away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kosugi goes for an armbar but Morgan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Morgan.

Kosugi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Morgan is one step ahead there.
Kosugi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sho Kosugi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kosugi moves in looking to clinch but Morgan pushes him off.
Kosugi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Morgan's waist but Morgan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kosugi off to one side.
Morgan catches Kosugi with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Kosugi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Morgan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Morgan motions for Kosugi to come forward. Morgan throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Morgan looks to score with a jab to the body but Kosugi is just out of range.

A looping hook to the body misses from Morgan. Kosugi does a little dance to reset his feet.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Morgan checks a leg kick.

Morgan is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Kosugi rather than just go for the knockout.
Kosugi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Morgan.
Kosugi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Morgan pinned against the cage. Morgan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Morgan wants to control but Kosugi is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kosugi tries to pass to full mount but Morgan defends it.

Kosugi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Morgan sees it coming and defends easily.
Morgan has hold of Kosugi's hands but Kosugi slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Sho Kosugi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kosugi is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Morgan!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Simon Morgan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Morgan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kosugi.
Kosugi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Morgan as he jumps to the side.
Morgan swings for the body but Kosugi moves out of range.

Morgan explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

and Morgan counters with a right hand to the body.

Kosugi shoots in for a takedown but Morgan shows good takedown defense.

Morgan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Morgan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kosugi moves away.

Kosugi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Morgan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Morgan thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kosugi if he has to take too many more of those.

Kosugi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Morgan to the mat! Morgan manages to get full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee warns Morgan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sho Kosugi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kosugi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sho Kosugi made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Simon needs to learn how to punch, he hits like his pimp manager bitch slaps. I was never hurt at all and was just playing with him until the time was right to make my move. He just got ninja'ed'.
