Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Omar Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Cejudo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henry Cejudo has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Omar Mendes's chin.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Omar Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry Cejudo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cejudo.
A combination from Mendes does no damage.
Nice straight punches there by Mendes. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mendes.
Cejudo uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mendes.

Cejudo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Mendes regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Cejudo.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cejudo jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mendes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mendes and Cejudo has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Cejudo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cejudo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendes keeps working.

Cejudo is just content to waste time from the top position. Mendes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Cejudo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mendes pinned against the cage. Mendes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mendes is pressed up against the cage. Cejudo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mendes down to the mat. Mendes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Omar Mendes just wasn't active enough.
Mendes's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cejudo under the eye.
Omar Mendes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Cejudo counters with a single leg into guard. Mendes didn't expect that.
Cejudo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mendes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mendes has momentary wrist control but Cejudo slips an elbow through the middle.
Cejudo wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving.
Cejudo throws an elbow that misses. Mendes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cejudo's guard. Nice move by Mendes!
Cejudo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Omar Mendes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cejudo circles away quickly and effectively.
Mendes throws a series of strikes that have Cejudo backpedaling.

Mendes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cejudo on the ground.

Cejudo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cejudo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cejudo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Henry Cejudo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Cejudo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mendes prevents Cejudo from getting the reversal.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cejudo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mendes throws out the jab.

Henry Cejudo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
