PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mogul Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes to the cage accompanied by Crash by 12 Stones. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Mogul Khan!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan thuds his right hand into Davis's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Khan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Davis is trying to defend but Khan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Khan wants to control but Davis is keeping him busy.
Khan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Khan in particular looking to stall.

Khan is working for a submission of some sort.

Khan is working for an americana but Davis has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Khan was thinking about the submission.

Khan tries to free his leg and advance position but Davis is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Khan's guard.

Khan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Khan wants to hit a switch here but Davis passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Khan there!
Khan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Davis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Khan is looking to improve his position but Davis isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Khan tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away.

Davis is in the full mount, landing strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Davis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Khan looks a forlorn figure.

Khan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Davis pulls his head out easily.

Davis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Khan is trying to control but can't.
Davis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Khan wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan tries to roll over but Davis keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mogul Khan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Davis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Khan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Khanis looking to pass into half guard but Davis pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Davis is in guard.
Khan controls Davis momentarily but Davis frees himself.

Khan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Davis defends well.

Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Davis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Davis prevents Khan from improving his position.
Davis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Khan is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Khan.

Davis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Khan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Davis has managed to get both his arms back between Khan's legs - danger averted.
Khan wants to improve his position but instead Davis has moved into half guard.
Khan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Khan tries to lock up and control but Davis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Davis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Khan looks a forlorn figure.

Davis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Khan is looking for a sweep. Davis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Davis is thwarting Khan's attempts to control the position.
Khan wants to get back to full guard.

Khan is breathing heavily.
Khan is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Khan avoid being mounted?

Mogul Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khan feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Daviss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Khan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Davis lands a really nice looking cross but Khan seems unphased.

Davis takes a swing at Khan's ribcage but misses.
Khan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Davis throws the left hand but Khan avoids the punch easily.

Khan drives through and clinches with Davis against the cage.
Khan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Davis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Davis lands a body shot in the clinch.
Johnny Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Khan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Davis digs a right hand underneath Khan's ribcage. Khan let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Khan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Davis fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Johnny Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mogul Khan.

Mogul Khan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis lands a nice hook to Khan's body. Khan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Khan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Khan showed some decent athleticism there.
Khan content to control rather than advance.
Khan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Davis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Davis won't allow Khan to pass to mount.
Well, if Khan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Davis is not content to let Khan control the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mogul Khan wasn't active enough on the ground.

Khan shoots in but Davis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Davis misses with a two punch combination.
Khan moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mogul Khan.
I've got Khan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
