PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Conan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Oath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Conan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ken Oath!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Oath has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Oath pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Oath scores with a shot to the side of Jones's head.
Oath landing knees to the head.
Oath lands a left hand that snaps the head of Jones backwards.
Jones dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Jones is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Oath to keep the fight standing.
Oath lands with a right to the head.
Come on Oath - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Oath throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones is trying to pull guard but Oath turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conan Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones drags the fight down to the ground.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Oath trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Oath looking to pass the guard.

Jones has a closed guard, preventing Oath from standing up.
Jones manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oath manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Oath gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Oath wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Oath wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ken Oath.
Oath throws a sloppy body shot
and Jones counters with a head kick. That will keep Oath thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones fails to land the takedown.

Oath lands a jab.
Jones staying out of range there.
Oath slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Oath lands with a cross.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Oath.
Oath connects with a nice looking jab.
Jones blocks a head kick by Oath.

Jones motions for Oath to come forward. Jones throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Oath clinches up against the cage.
Oath displaying some good clinch control by pressing Jones up against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Oath scores with a nice short uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A head punch on the inside from Oath fails to land.
Jones tries to pull guard but Oath won't allow it.
Oath lands a body punch in the clinch.
Oath digs a right hand underneath Jones's ribcage. Jones let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Jones blocks an elbow strike.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Oath manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Jones pulls guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Oath dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Oath is looking to clinch.
Jones ducks right into an uppercut from Oath.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.

Oath closes the distance and clinches.
Oath throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jones blocks it with crossed arms.
Oath misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Oath is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.
Oath struggles to land a body shot inside as Jones controls his hands.
Oath tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.

Jones gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Jones seems to be looking for submissions.
Oath is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oath is trying to control but can't.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jones landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Oath really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones is trying to control. Oath wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oath is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Oath avoid being mounted?
Oath throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Oath is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones stalling away here and it's allowed Oath to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Oath looking for a sweep. Not yet Oath, not yet.
Oath keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Oath can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Conan Jones.
Jones cracks Oath with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Ken Oath has been cut.
Jones takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Oath ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jab, jab by Oath - just one landing.
Ken Oath seems to be getting the better of the standup.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Oath cracks the inside of Jones's front leg.
Oath moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Oath is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Oath scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Oath showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Oath.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Oath tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Oath manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Oath fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jones on the side of the head.
Oath connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Oath slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A looping hook to the body misses from Oath. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Oath scoring well with a low kick there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Oath getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Oath moves out of range of the strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Oath checks a leg kick.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Oath sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conan Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Oath cracks Jones with an open hand slap.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Oath shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Good exchange - Oath coming out on top.

Oath stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones seems to have got his legs back now.
Oath thuds a left hand into Jones's body.
Oath moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Oath is looking to slow Jones down with leg kicks.
Oath jabs Jones to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Nice shot by Oath.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Oath.
Oath drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Jones right on the button. Jones goes down! Oath follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Oath gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ken Oath!
Our winner, Ken Oath, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
