PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Curran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Superman. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dwight Howard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pat Curran!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curran tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Curran tries to keep at a distance but Howard has taken the fight into the clinch.

Howard is trying to trip Curran. He has hold of a leg but Curran is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Howard persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Curran can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Howard controls the pace.
Curran is looking to stand up but Howard isn't so interested in that idea.
Howard content to stall in guard here.
Howard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We're going to have a standup here because Dwight Howard wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Curran gets caught flat footed, as Howard shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Curran can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Howard controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Dwight Howard wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Howard stuffs the takedown attempt from Curran. Curran gets slowly back to his feet.

Howard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Curran sprawls well initially but Howard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Howard is looking for a kimura but Curran is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Howard to get the leverage.
Curran has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Howard is working away from the top position though.
Howard passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Curran!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Howard with shots to the head and body - Curran looks very uncomfortable down there.
Howard looking to finish Curran with some ground and pound. This is bad for Curran!

Howard looking to isolate an arm here. Curran doesn't see it coming and as Howard extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Howard!

After winning the bout, Dwight Howard thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
