PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cru Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rez Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears . Rez Cortez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cru Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rez Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones moves out of range of the strikes.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Cortez thuds his right hand into Jones's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Cortez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cortez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Jones tries to advance to mount but Cortez denies him.
Jones lands an elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Jones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cortez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jones misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones working the ground and pound.
Cortez tries to escape but Jones is in control.
Cortez avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Jones.
Cortez tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Jones looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jones throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Cortez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jones wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cortez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cortez has escaped the position, nice work there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Cortez is defending well.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cortez prevents Jones from improving position.

Jones wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cortez, who protects the arm well.
Jones wants to control but Cortez is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cortez tries to improve position but can't.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cortez taking punishment in the form of punches.
Cortez tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Cortez is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones goes for an armbar but Cortez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Cortez.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cru Jones dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Cortez misses with a few strikes there.
Cortez throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jones counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cortez's guard now.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
Jones controlling the action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.
Jones winds up and cracks Cortez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cortez won't allow Jones to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cortez keeps working.

Jones seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Cortez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
