PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Jaa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lupercal Abaddon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaa comes to the cage accompanied by Anna Molly by Incubus. Lupercal Abaddon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tony Jaa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lupercal Abaddon!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abaddon looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Abaddon takes a swing at Jaa's ribcage but misses.
Abaddon ducks under a wild hook from Jaa.
Jaa misses with a jab to the body
and Abaddon counters with a good low kick that Jaa was not able to check.
Abaddon takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Abaddon avoids the head kick by Jaa.
Jaa throws a push kick but Abaddon slaps the foot to one side.
Abaddon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jaa as he jumps to the side.
Abaddon keeps Jaa at a distance using the push kick.
Abaddon moves out of range of the strikes.
Jaa tries a low kick but Abaddon avoids it.
Jaa fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Abaddon is out of range.
Jaa throws a sloppy head kick and Abaddon moves out of range easily.
Jaa looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Jaa uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Abaddon.

Jaa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Abaddon manages to avoid it.
Abaddon connects with a nice looking jab.
Jaa misses with the body kick
and Abaddon counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Abaddon lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
That kick from Jaa tenderised Abaddon's leg. Abaddon is trying to keep his angry face on.

Jaa on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Abaddon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jaa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Abaddon takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Abaddon has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Jaa.

Jaa is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jaa stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Jaa moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice body punch from Jaa.
Jaa finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Jaa moves away from the strike by Abaddon.

Abaddon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Abaddon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Jaa seems keen to control Abaddon's posture.

Abaddon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Jaa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jaa can't keep his opponent in guard - Abaddon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Abaddon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Abaddon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jaa has managed to free his arm - good work.

Abaddon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jaa has his hands clasped together around Abaddon's back. He's all about the action.
Jaa wants to control but Abaddon passes into side.

The strikes coming from Abaddon are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Jaa parries the strikes from Abaddon easily there. Abaddon is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jaa to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Abaddon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Abaddon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jaa has escaped the position, nice work there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jaa is not content to let Abaddon control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lupercal Abaddon dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jaa throws a big shot that misses.
Abaddon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Abaddon throws out a leg kick but Jaa moves out of range and Abaddon only half commits.
Jaa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tony Jaa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Abaddon stuns Jaa with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
The crowd cheers as Jaa lands an impressive looking overhand right. Abaddon doesn't seem phased though.
Lupercal Abaddon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Abaddon lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Jaa fakes the leg kick and cracks Abaddon in the body.

Abaddon is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jaa.

Jaa tries a head kick but it misses.
Abaddon throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Jaa.

and Abaddon makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Jaa really felt that one!

Abaddon connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Jaa momentarily.
Nice straight punches there by Jaa. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jaa.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Jaa.
Jaa walks into a jab.
Abaddon has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Jaa connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Abaddon has a takedown stuffed.
Jaa tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Abaddon turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Abaddon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jaa tries to avoid it but Abaddon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jaa to the ground. Jaa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A close second round but Lupercal Abaddon will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Jaa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Abaddon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Abaddon feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Jaa's calf.

Lupercal Abaddon is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Abaddon feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jaas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Jaa looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Jaa takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Jaa throws a front kick aimed at Abaddon's knee but Abaddon avoids it well.

Abaddon bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jaa's head backwards.

and Abaddon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jaa does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Abaddon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lupercal Abaddon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Abaddon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
