PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baldomir Zsofka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Mayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mayer is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I´m shipping out to Boston - Dropkick Murphys. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Baldomir Zsofka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Mayer!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayer is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mayer lands a jab to Zsofka's midsection.

Zsofka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mayer was covering up waiting for the punch and Zsofka finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Zsofka loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Mayer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zsofka is one step ahead there.

Zsofka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mayer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Zsofka postures up in Mayer's guard and throws a big left but Mayer blocks it.
Mayer is looking to stand up but Zsofka isn't so interested in that idea.
Zsofka has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Zsofka counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mayer won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zsofka cracks Mayer with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Zsofka is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mayer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mayer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Zsofka tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zsofka has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mayer can't do much from the bottom here.

Zsofka tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zsofka has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mayer manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mayer is staying active underneath Zsofka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zsofka throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mayer is trying to get back to full guard.
Zsofka tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mayer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Zsofka is keen to just control but Mayer is a slippery customer.

Zsofka is working for a submission of some sort.
Zsofka wants to pass the guard but Mayer is defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Zsofka works his foot free and advances to mount.
Zsofka tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baldomir Zsofka dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Mayer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mayer lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Mayer tries a body shot but Zsofka blocks it.

Mayer misses with a body punch.

Zsofka pulls Mayer into guard.

Zsofka looking for a guillotine here but Mayer defends easily.
Zsofka controls Mayer momentarily but Mayer frees himself.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Zsofka looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mayer passes into side control.
Zsofka tries to improve position but can't.
Zsofka might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mayer decides to stand back up.
Mayer leaves Zsofka with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mayer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Zsofka.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baldomir Zsofka. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mayer fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Zsofka on the side of the head.
Zsofka tries for a takedown but Mayer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zsofka takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Mayer cracks Zsofka with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Zsofka looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Mayer finish him?


Zsofka is rocked!


It looks like Baldomir Zsofka has been cut.
Zsofka has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mayer.
Oh Zsofka is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mayer has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Mayer lands a right hook to the body.
Zsofka seems to have got his legs back now.
Mayer misses with a body shot.

Mayer lands a big right hand that sends Zsofka crashing to the mat! Mayer stays standing though and waves Zsofka back to his feet!
Mayer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Zsofka was well out of range. Poor timing from Mayer.
Mayer throws a body punch but Zsofka moves out of range.
Zsofka fails to land the takedown.
Mayer lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Zsofka falls backwards - clearly groggy! Mayer dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Mayer!
