PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yin Hong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jo Jo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jo has chosen Set You Free as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Yin Hong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jo Jo!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jo defends it nicely.
Jo wants to clinch.
Hong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jo tries to avoid it but Hong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jo to the ground. Jo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hong shoots in for a takedown but Jo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yin Hong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hong moves forwards but Jo connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Hong looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jo!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Jo slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hong is keen to just control but Jo is a slippery customer.
Hong tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jo wants to get back to his feet.

Hong lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hong controlling the pace.
Jo regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hong.
Hong tries to free his leg and advance position but Jo is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hong wants to control from the top but Jo keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hong prevents Jo from getting back to his feet.
Jo controls Hong momentarily but Hong frees himself.
Hong in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jo keeping full guard, as Hong tries to pass.
Hong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hong drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hong has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hong throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jo throws a lazy uppercut

and Hong decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jo's guard.
Hong won't allow Jo to get back to his feet.
Hong loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hong wants to control from the top but Jo keeps moving.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hong works a leg free and moves into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hong stalling away here and it's allowed Jo to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Jo wants to get back to his feet but Hong is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yin Hong dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jo throws a hook but Hong avoids it easily.
Jo scores with the left hand. Hong knows he should have avoided that one.
Yin Hong is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hong takes the fight into the clinch.
Jo gets underhooks to prevent Hong's takedown attempt.
Jo lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hong backwards.
A head punch on the inside from Jo fails to land.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Hong.
A head punch on the inside from Jo fails to land.

Hong has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Jo defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

Jo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hong had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jo defends it easily.
Jo passes Hong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Jo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Jo is trying to work for a kimura but Hong is defending well.
Hong trying to hold on to Jo's head to control him but Jo postures up.
Hong tries to get to full guard but Jo has control of the leg.

Hong kicks Jo off and gets back to his feet.
Jo looks to land a right hand but Hong moved out of range.
Hong avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jo swings for the body but Hong moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hong shoots in for a takedown but Jo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hong closes the distance and clinches up with Jo, looking for a takedown. Hong pushes Jo against the cage but Jo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yin Hong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hong tries to avoid it but Jo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hong to the ground. Hong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hong gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hong takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Jo Jo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hong.
Hong takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Jo misses with a looping left.
Jo throws a right and a left that Hong avoids nicely.
Hong shoots in for a takedown but Jo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jo tries to close the distance and clinch but Hong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hong misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jo connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Hong tumbling to the canvas! Jo pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Hong was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jo Jo!
Our winner, Jo Jo, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
