The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Whistler to the mat! Whistler manages to get full guard.

Whistler looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Peen passes into half guard.

Whistler is trying to stand back up but Peen is controlling him

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Peen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Whistler's guard.

Whistler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Whistler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Peen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Whistler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Peen's back instead.

Peen is in a bad position with Whistler working for a choke. Peen manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
Whistler wants to sweep here but Peen controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Peen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Peen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Peen manages to capitalize on a mistake by Whistler to take his back!
