Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kanki Onki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mort Shula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kanki Onki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mort Shula!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shula gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Onki to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Onki controlling from the top position.
Shula is looking to stand back up but Onki counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Shula.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Onki not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Onki throwing shots but Shula is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shula is trying to stand up here but Onki is controlling him well.
Onki looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Shula tries to kick Onki off but Onki keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kanki Onki just wasn't active enough.
Shula scores with a kick to the body.
Onki shoots for a double leg takedown but Shula sprawls well. He's pushed Onki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shula keeps the fight on the outside.
Shula tries to clinch up but Onki circles away and keeps his distance.
Shula scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Onki throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shula was covering up waiting for the punch and Onki finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Onki not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Onki tries to free his leg and advance position but Shula is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Onki sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kanki Onki wasn't doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shula looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shula shoots in but Onki avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Shula shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Onki but Onki pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Shula takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Onki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shula sprawls well. Shula wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Onki gets slowly back to his feet.
Shula pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Shula moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Onki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shula circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kanki Onki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Onki tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Onki shoots for a takedown but Shula saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Shula moves into range and clinches up with Onki.
A nice left hand lands by Onki.
Onki has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shula is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Onki breaks the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shula enables Onki to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shula manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Onki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shula is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kanki Onki dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shula swats away the attempt to clinch by Onki.
Kanki Onki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shula throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Onki.
Shula looks to land a combination but Onki avoids it well.
Onki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Onki throws out a leg kick but Shula moves out of range and Onki only half commits.
Shula scores with a sloppy right hand. Onki should have avoided that one.
Shula throws the kick towards the body but Onki avoids it.
Onki pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shula shoots for a takedown but Onki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mort Shula seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Onki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Onki moves in looking to clinch but Shula pushes him off.
Shula moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Onki. No joy for Shula on that attempt.

Onki manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Shula on his heels. He'll look to pass Shula's guard now, I'm sure.

Onki wants to control from the top but Shula keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kanki Onki wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Shula shoots in and gets a takedown into Onki's guard.
Onki is looking to stand up but Shula isn't so interested in that idea.
Shula throws an elbow that misses. Onki uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shula's guard. Nice move by Onki!

Onki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Onki prevents Shula from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kanki Onki.
Shula tries to clinch but Onki is having none of it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shula throws a sloppy body shot

and Onki counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Onki has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shula after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kanki Onki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Onki is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shula pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Shula wants to break the clinch but can't.

Onki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Onki throws a body punch but Shula moves out of range.
Onki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shula darts in trying to clinch

and Onki counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shula!
Onki controlling the position easily from mount.
Shula trying desperately to get to his feet.

Onki misses with a head shot.
Onki thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Onki throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Onki trying to control but Shula is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kanki Onki dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Onki is looking to score with low kicks.

Onki darts in and clinches Shula up against the cage.
Shula blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Onki stalling.

Shula breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shula moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Shula throws a series of strikes that have Onki backpedaling.
Onki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shula avoids it really well and circles away.
Onki throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Onki tries to clinch but Shula is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Onki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Shula fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Onki, pushing him back against the cage.
Onki wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kanki Onki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shula wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Onki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shula throws a series of punches but Onki moves out of range.
Onki looks for a takedown but Shula sprawls well.
Shula scores with a three punch combo!

Shula gets a double leg takedown into Onki's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Onki is on top in guard.
Onki trying to control but Shula is working from the bottom.
Mort Shula has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Kanki Onki wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Onki gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shula keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shula is staying active underneath Onki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shula tries to kick Onki off in order to stand up. Onki Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Onki postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
A lull in the action here.
Shula is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Onki asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Onki trying to control the position but Shula is working away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kanki Onki just wasn't active enough.
Onki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shula swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kanki Onki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Shula throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kanki Onki.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Onki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
