PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Death Above (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Ridgeon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ridgeon's choice of entrance music: The last fight. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that David Ridgeon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Death Above!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, David Ridgeon!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ridgeon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A punch lands to the side of Ridgeon 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Above lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Ridgeon clinches up with Above and pushes him back against the cage.
Above is looking to break free of the clinch but Ridgeon has double underhooks.
Above is trying to force a seperation but Ridgeon has the dominant position.

Above breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ridgeon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Above circles away from the clinch attempt
enabling Above to counter with a crisp jab.
Above throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A combination from Above does no damage.
Above is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Above throws a nice looking combination but Ridgeon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ridgeon tries to close the distance and clinch but Above swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Above throws a combination that misses
and Ridgeon counters with a flying knee. Nice.

and Ridgeon counters by clinching up.
Ridgeon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Above has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ridgeon regains guard immediately.
Above has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ridgeon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ridgeon in particular looking to stall.

Above really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ridgeon raining down hammerfists from mount.

Ridgeon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Above is on top in guard.
Ridgeon looking to control.
Above wants to stand but Ridgeon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ridgeon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Above got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ridgeon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Above has managed to get both his arms back between Ridgeon's legs - danger averted.
Ridgeon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Above would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ridgeon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ridgeon wants to sweep here but Above controlling him for the moment.
Above is looking to stand up but Ridgeon won't let him.
Above preventing the sweep.
Above postures up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Above fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Above throws a series of punches but Ridgeon avoids them all with ease.
Ridgeon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Above swivels and escapes.
Above throws a hook but Ridgeon blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Ridgeon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Above throws a series of punches but Ridgeon avoids them all with ease.
Above misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Above misses with a series of wild punches.
Death Above seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ridgeon is defended easily by Above.
Above lands with a right hand.
Above bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ridgeon's head backwards.

Above throws a combination. Ridgeon tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Ridgeon doesn't manage to clinch there - Above circles away.
Above cracks Ridgeon with an open hand slap.
Above avoids the head kick by Ridgeon.
Ridgeon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ridgeon pushes Above up against the cage in a clinch.

Above breaks the clinch.
Above misses with a series of wild punches.
Death Above is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Above works the jab nicely.

Ridgeon tries to clinch there but Above circles away.
Above is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ridgeon.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Above lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Ridgeon has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Ridgeon and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Above lands a glancing blow to the side of Ridgeon's head.
Ridgeon shoots in for a double leg but Above sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ridgeon tries to clinch
and Above cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Above misses the jab.

Ridgeon moves to clinch but Above breaks away
and Above connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Above looks to land a combination but Ridgeon avoids it well.
Ridgeon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Above manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ridgeon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Above throws a right and a left that Ridgeon avoids nicely.
Above throws a nice looking combination but Ridgeon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ridgeon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Above manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Above counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Above looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Ridgeon closes the distance but Above moves to the side
and Above counters with a two punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Death Above dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Ridgeon is looking to clinch but Above is avoiding it.

Ridgeon takes a shot to the body in his stride.

and Above counters with a stiff right hand.
Ridgeon closes the distance but Above moves to the side
and Above counters with a left and a right that stings Ridgeon.

Ridgeon tries to close the distance and clinch but Above swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Death Above is winning the standup battle so far.
Above misses with a few strikes there.
Above bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ridgeon's head backwards.
Ridgeon tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Ridgeon tries to bum rush Above with a series of wild strikes but Above uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Death Above is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ridgeon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Above paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ridgeon dodges the punch combination from Above.
Above is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Above steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ridgeon.
Ridgeon throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Above throws a right and a left that both miss.
Above misses with a series of wild punches.
Ridgeon tries to move into range but Above moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Above moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Above throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sloppy strikes from Above. Those never looked like landing.

Ridgeon throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Above tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ridgeon is in Above's guard.
Ridgeon makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ridgeon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ridgeon slips nicely into half guard.
Ridgeon wants to take a breather but Above is having none of it.

Ridgeon is trying to work for a kimura but Above is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ridgeon is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ridgeon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ridgeon wants to work for an arm triangle but Above is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ridgeon is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Above is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
