PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Longfellow Deeds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gray Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deeds comes into the arena with Evils Deeds blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Longfellow Deeds!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gray Son!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deeds shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Son as he avoids it easily.
Son throws a sloppy body shot

and Deeds counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Deeds is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Son is just riding it out for now. Deeds eventually gives up the hold.
Deeds is trying to control the action in half guard but Son is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Son controlling the position well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Son wants to improve his position but Deeds is controlling well.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Longfellow Deeds just wasn't active enough.
Deeds ducks right into an uppercut from Son.
Good leg kick by Son there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Deeds is trying hard to land a takedown here. Son sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Deeds checks a low kick from Son.
Son throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Deeds misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Longfellow Deeds. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Deeds will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Son misses with a double jab.
Gray Son seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Deeds changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Son looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deeds trying to control the action but Son is working from the bottom.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Deeds shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Son as he avoids it easily.

Deeds tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Deeds shoots in and drives through. Son sprawls well.

Son fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Deeds sprawls well initially but Son persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Deeds is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Son pulls his head out easily.

Deeds makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Deeds.
Son must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Deeds trying to keep a closed guard but Son is proving a slippery customer.

Deeds looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Son has picked Deeds up and slammed him! Deeds can't keep hold of the triangle and Son manages to pass to side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Deeds is looking to regain half guard here but Son keeps moving and retains side control.

Son has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Son bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Son throws a good cross that connects.

Son scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Son displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Deeds.
Son throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Deeds throws a good cross that connects.
Son fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Deeds gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Son buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Deeds closes this distance looking for a takedown but Son circles away.
Deeds gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Deeds takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Son tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Son throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sloppy strikes from Son. Those never looked like landing.
A jab from Son misses.
Son swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Deeds shoots for a takedown but Son saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Son's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Son duly obliges.
Son stuffs the takedown attempt from Deeds. Deeds gets slowly back to his feet.
Son throws a sloppy head kick and Deeds moves out of range easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Son wants to clinch up but Deeds keeps it at a distance.
Deeds fails to land the takedown.
Son misses with a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gray Son showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Deeds tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Son swivels and escapes.
Deeds shoots in but no luck this time.
Son scores with a jab to the body.
Deeds throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Son's waist but Son gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Deeds off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Longfellow Deeds. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Son throws a right hand that Deeds ducks under and follows up with a left that Deeds also avoids with ease.
Son misses with a body shot.
Deeds throws a good cross that connects.
Deeds shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Son defends it nicely.
Son fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Deeds.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
