The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
There throws a leg kick but Kawate moved away.
Kawate ducks under a wild hook from There.
Kawate throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
A jab from There misses.
There tries for a takedown but Kawate sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Good leg kick by There there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Xoleap Kawate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kawate fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and There has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
There throws an overhand right that lands on Kawate's shoulder, as Kawate tries to avoid the shot.
There misses with a straight right.

There throws a solid leg kick but Kawate takes the impact on his shin and smiles at There.
Kawate looks for the body kick but There saw that one coming.
Kawate throws a sloppy head kick and There moves out of range easily.

There tries to sprawl but Kawate drives through with a takedown into half guard.

There is pressing down on Kawate's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

There doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if There can do anything to dispel that myth.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

There postures up in Kawate's guard and throws a big left but Kawate blocks it.
There distracts Kawate with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
There stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kawate swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

There looking to pass the guard.
There throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kawate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There with a flurry of punches that miss.
There tries to free his leg and advance position but Kawate is retaining full guard.
Kawate is adopting a defensive guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Xoleap Kawate wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kawate.
Kawate throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kawate misses with a body kick.
There throws a low kick but Kawate avoids it.
Kawate closes this distance looking for a takedown but There circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xoleap Kawate. That's going to take a lot out of him.

There leaves Kawate with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kawate looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? There is fending him off so far but Kawate persists. Nope, There circles away and we're back to standing.
There misses with a low kick.
Kawate thows a body shot but no joy.

Kawate shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
There regains half guard.

There looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
There is looking for a sweep. Kawate is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
There on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Nice strikes from Kawate there.

There is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kawate pulls his head out easily.
Kawate thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kawate lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Kawate working over There with some ground and pound. There looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
There is looking for a sweep. Kawate is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kawate working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kawate passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for There!
There takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Kawate lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
There swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Kawate looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Kawate breaks from There's wrist control and lands an elbow.
There is in a horrible position here. Kawate smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Kawate fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kawate softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and There is out cold! Kawate jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!
