PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulie Wogg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Six Million Dollar Man. Paulie Wogg acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paulie Wogg!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wogg shoots in for a takedown but Austin shows good takedown defense.
Wogg stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Austin.
Wogg is looking to clinch but Austin is avoiding it.
The fighters circling - Austin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Austin lunges at Wogg with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Wogg's hand.
Nice takedown defense from Austin. No joy for Wogg on that attempt.
Austin misses with a double jab.
No joy there for Austin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Austin throws a big shot that misses.
Wogg shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Austin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Austin misses with a looping left.
Wogg fails in his attempt to clinch.

Austin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Austin wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wogg tries for a takedown but Austin manages to get underhooks.
Steve Austin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulie Wogg.
Austin throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Woggs head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Austin.
Austin lands with a left to the head.

Wogg avoiding damage as Austin throws knees to the body.
Wogg has Austin pushed against the cage.

Austin throws a punch but it's blocked by Wogg.
Wogg blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Wogg blocks the elbow strike.
Austin pushes Wogg back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Wogg is trying to break the clinch but Austin has him pressed against the cage.

Wogg pulls guard effortlessly.
Austin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Austin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Wogg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Wogg working for a triangle but Austin defends it easily.
Austin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Steve Austin just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Wogg closes the distance looking to clinch
and Austin counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Wogg tries to clinch there but Austin circles away.
Austin loads up on a big right hand but Wogg slips the punch.

Austin shoots in and bounces Wogg off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wogg can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Austin controls the pace.

Austin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Austin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Austin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Austin cracks Wogg with a solid left hand.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wogg tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Wogg working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Austin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Austin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Austin is looking to stand up but Wogg won't let him.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Austin tests Wogg's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Wogg slips a jab and a cross from Austin.
Nice straight punches there by Austin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Austin.
Wogg looks for a takedown but Austin sprawls well.
A big left from Austin misses.
Austin misses with a two punch combination.

Austin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Austin tries to move to mount but Wogg blocks the move with his legs.
Wogg is looking to regain half guard here but Austin keeps moving and retains side control.
Wogg gets back to half guard.
Well, if Austin is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters circle momentarily. Austin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Wogg closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Austin with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Austin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Wogg drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Wogg is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Austin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Austin circles away from the clinch attempt
and Austin counters with a left and a right that stings Wogg.
Wogg shoots for a double leg takedown but Austin sprawls well. He's pushed Wogg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Austin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Austin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Austin misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Austin dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Wogg closes the distance and clinches.
Austin tries to land knees in the clinch but Wogg avoids the damage to the body.
Wogg has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Austin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Austin gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Wogg is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Austin is keeping busy.
Austin wants to break free but Wogg has control.
Austin creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Austin doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

A right handed body shot lands from Austin.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Austin tries to bum rush Wogg with a series of wild strikes but Wogg uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Austin changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Austin throws a shot from downtown. Wogg moves away and avoids it.
Austin lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

The fight stays on the outside here - Wogg looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Wogg shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Austin's guard.
Wogg tries to free his leg and advance position but Austin is retaining full guard.

Wogg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Austin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wogg has gone for a leg lock! Austin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wogg's guard.

Wogg bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Austin's guard.

Wogg stands and throws Austin's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Wogg thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Austin is trying to control Wogg's posture but Wogg avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paulie Wogg comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Austin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
