PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Father Earth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ribeiro comes to the cage accompanied by The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcelo Ribeiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Father Earth!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro tries for a takedown but Earth sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Earth misses with a looping left.
Earth changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ribeiro tries to avoid it but Earth manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ribeiro to the ground. Ribeiro escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but Earth shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Earth swings for the body but Ribeiro moves out of range.

Ribeiro gets a double leg takedown into Earth's guard.
Ribeiro trying to control the position from guard on top but Earth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ribeiro engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Ribeiro throws a big right hand that misses.
Ribeiro trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ribeiro controlling from the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcelo Ribeiro wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ribeiro has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcelo Ribeiro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ribeiro misses with a low kick.
Earth blocks a low kick nicely.

Ribeiro misses with a jab, cross combination.
Earth stuffs the takedown.
Ribeiro shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Earth pinned against the cage. Earth gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Earth closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ribeiro circles away.

Earth gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ribeiro tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ribeiro is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Earth's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Earth is looking to take a break and control but Ribeiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ribeiro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Earth is working away from the top position though.

Earth is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ribeiro is not content to let Earth control the position.
Earth should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Ribeiro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Earth is working away from the top position though.
Earth thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ribeiro's head.

Earth is working for a kimura but Ribeiro is defending it quite comfortably.
Ribeiro moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ribeiro looking to control.
Ribeiro keeping moving, preventing Earth from controlling successfully.
Ribeiro is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Earth pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ribeiro is keeping the position for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Earth trying to control the position from guard on top but Ribeiro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Ribeiro dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Earth bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Marcelo Ribeiro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Earth is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ribeiro's half guard.
Ribeiro is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Earth tries to pass to full mount but Ribeiro defends it.
Earth is trying to control. Ribeiro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Earth is working for a kimura but Ribeiro is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ribeiro manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Earth drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ribeiro looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ribeiro looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ribeiro!
Earth can't do much from the bottom here.
Ribeiro working the ground and pound but Earth is defending the strikes.
Earth sneaks back into half guard.
Ribeiro moves into full mount! Earth won't be happy about that!
Earth is squirming around, avoiding Ribeiro's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ribeiro unloads with some shots from mount but Earth bucks and avoids them well.
Earth keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Earth wants to control but Ribeiro is having none of it.
Ribeiro content just to control the position here.
Ribeiro throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ribeiro is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Ribeiro!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Marcelo Ribeiro!
