PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dave Benevides (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davison has chosen Cinderella Man - Eminem as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Benevides!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Joshua Davison!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Benevides with that takedown attempt.
Davison scores with a three punch combo!
Benevides has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Davison rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Benevides counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Davison is defending against the submission attempts here by Benevides.
Davison is trying to stand up here but Benevides is controlling him well.

Benevides is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Davison wants to improve his position but Benevides is controlling well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Benevides connects with a nice short shot to Davison's temple.

Benevides has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Benevides is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Davison is just riding it out for now. Benevides eventually gives up the hold.

Benevides is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Davison is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Benevides pulls his head out easily.

Benevides fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Davison avoids it really well and circles away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Benevides counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Benevides.
Benevides prevents Davison from getting back to his feet.

Benevides has gone for a leg lock! Davison slips out almost immediately though and dives into Benevides's guard.
Davison must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davison looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Benevides will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Benevides trying to keep a closed guard but Davison is proving a slippery customer.
Davison throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davison would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Davison throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Benevides works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Benevides working for a triangle but Davison defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Benevides working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Davison doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Davison manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Benevides is looking for a triangle but Davison pushes his legs off easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Davison keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Benevides wants to clinch up but Davison keeps it at a distance.
Davison feints a jab promting Benevides to slip. Davison then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Benevides slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Davison throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Benevides.
Benevides avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Davison scores with a decent looking hook.

Benevides scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Benevides tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Davison pushes Benevides away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Benevides gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Benevides is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Davison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Benevides is trying to get an arm triangle but Davison is defending well.

Benevides swings around for an armbar but Davison sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Benevides's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Benevides is on top in guard.

Davison pushes Benevides off looking to stand but Benevides dives back in and keeps control.

Benevides is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Davison is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
