PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Qwis Rey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is It's Raining Men . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson misses with a two punch combination.
Rey fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Anderson swats away the attempt to clinch by Rey.
Rey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Anderson as he avoids it easily.
Anderson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rey tries to clinch up.
Rey misses the shot to the body.
Rey tries to clinch up but Anderson circles away and keeps his distance.
Rey looks to land a right hand but Anderson moved out of range.

Rey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Anderson's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rey accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Anderson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Anderson on the ground.
Anderson is trying to control the position but Rey postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rey throws a strike but Anderson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Anderson advances position into side control!
Rey wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rey has escaped the position, nice work there.
Anderson is looking to take a break and control but Rey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rey tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Anderson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Rey tries to escape but Anderson is in control.

Rey bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Anderson misses with a takedown attempt - Rey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rey gets the takedown into side control.
Rey is breathing heavily.
Anderson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Anderson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rey does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rey wants to stand back up but Anderson manages to pass into side control.
Rey prevents Anderson from moving into mount.
Anderson wants to control but Rey is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anderson works to advance to full mount. Rey defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Anderson unloads with some shots from mount but Rey bucks and avoids them well.

Anderson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Anderson slips a straight right by Rey.
Rey swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Anderson is looking to score with low kicks.
Rey fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anderson manages to avoid it.
Rey falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rey takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Rey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Anderson's guard.

Rey stands up from Anderson's guard - Rey perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
Rey throws a sloppy body shot

and Anderson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rey!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rey bucks up and throws Anderson to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Anderson wants to sweep but no luck.
Anderson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Anderson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rey can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anderson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Rey connects with a couple of short punches.
Rey wants to stand but Anderson is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rey gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Rey swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rey throws a right and a left that Anderson avoids nicely.
Rey throws a poor cross that misses
and Anderson counters with a two punch combo.
Rey takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Anderson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rey pinned against the cage. Rey gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Qwis Rey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Anderson.
Anderson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Qwis Rey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rey tries to clinch up.

Rey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Anderson's guard.

Anderson working for a triangle but Rey defends it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rey stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Rey counters with a monster hook and another for good measure! Anderson falls to the ground, out cold! Stick some heavy metal music over the top of that clip and it's one for the highlight makers!
