PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Freedmen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Poddubny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freedmen comes into the arena with Hero by Skillet blaring out of the sound system. Poddubny has chosen Champion Of The Champions as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ivan Poddubny!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freedmen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Poddubny gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Poddubny throws an overhand right that lands on Freedmen's shoulder, as Freedmen tries to avoid the shot.
Freedmen scores with a spinning back kick!

Poddubny scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Poddubny creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Freedmen sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Poddubny swings around for an armbar but Freedmen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Poddubny's guard.

Poddubny is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Freedmen seems to be working for a kimura but Poddubny defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Freedmen is trying to control. Poddubny wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Poddubny tries to bench press Freedmen off him but Freedmen keeps the position.
Freedmen has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Poddubny is trying desperately to improve position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Freedmen is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Poddubny is in real trouble.
Poddubny is trying to get back to his feet but Freedmen has full control of the position and if anything, Poddubny has just worked his way into a worse spot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Freedmen will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Freedmen fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Freedmen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Poddubny is trying hard to land a takedown here. Freedmen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Freedmen lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Roger Freedmen is winning the standup battle so far.
Freedmen feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Poddubny's calf.
Freedmen scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Freedmen moves out of range as Poddubny strikes.
Freedmen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Roger Freedmen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Poddubny sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Roger Freedmen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poddubny is breathing heavily.
Poddubny takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Freedmen is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Poddubny walks into a stiff left hand from Freedmen.
Freedmen moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Freedmen scores with a decent looking hook.
Poddubny tries to move into range but Freedmen moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Poddubny takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Freedmen connects with an inside leg kick.
Freedmen bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Poddubny's head backwards.
Poddubny takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Freedmen fakes the leg kick and cracks Poddubny in the body.
Poddubny takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Poddubny dives in and scores a takedown into Freedmen's guard.
Ivan Poddubny has got the better of the ground game so far.

Freedmen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Poddubny defends well.

Poddubny tries to free his leg and advance position but Freedmen is retaining full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Poddubny accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Poddubny is posturing up here but Freedmen has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Poddubny tries to roll out but it's too tight and Poddubny has to tap! Slick submission there by Freedmen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roger Freedmen!
