PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Yakimyuk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roman Yakimyuk will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roman Yakimyuk!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yakimyuk checks the leg kick.
Penn throws a series of punches but Yakimyuk moves out of range.
Penn throws the left hand but Yakimyuk avoids the punch easily.
Penn walks into a jab.
Some wild striking there from Penn.
Yakimyuk slips a jab from Penn.
Yakimyuk throws a right and a left that Penn avoids nicely.
Penn tries to work over Yakimyuk's front leg with a kick but Yakimyuk checks it.
Yakimyuk keeps the fight on the outside.
Yakimyuk blocks a jab.
Penn bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Penn fails in his attempt to clinch.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch but Yakimyuk swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Penn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
An inside leg kick from Penn misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yakimyuk moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Yakimyuk to the mat! Yakimyuk manages to get full guard.
Penn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Yakimyuk is keeping the position for now.
Penn won't allow Yakimyuk to get back to his feet.

Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Yakimyuk is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Penn is controlling him.
Yakimyuk keeping full guard, as Penn tries to pass.
Penn is pushing down on Yakimyuk's leg trying to pass to half guard. Yakimyuk is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.
Yakimyuk is trying to stand.

Penn is working for a kimura but Yakimyuk is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yakimyuk doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

Penn wants to work for an arm triangle but Yakimyuk is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Yakimyuk is in trouble now - Penn has advanced to mount!

Penn with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Yakimyuk defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Penn.

Penn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Yakimyuk is surviving well by controlling Penn's body position as best he can.

Penn goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Yakimyuk turns into him and now he's in Penn's guard.
Yakimyuk trying to stand up but can't free himself from Penn's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Penn dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Penn tries to clinch up.
Penn throws a series of punches but Yakimyuk moves out of range.
Penn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yakimyuk pinned against the ropes. Yakimyuk gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Penn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Penn showed some decent athleticism there.

Penn is looking for a kimura but Yakimyuk is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Penn to get the leverage.

Penn wants to pass to mount but Yakimyuk is defending the position.

Yakimyuk is looking to escape.

Penn is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Yakimyuk is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
