PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between DeAndre Louis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Putnel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Putnel is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: This means War. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, DeAndre Louis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Putnel!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Louis misses with a head kick.
Putnel looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Louis moves into the clinch.

Louis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Louis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Putnel is trying to defend but Louis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Putnel avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Louis.

Louis is trying to work for a kimura but Putnel is defending well.
Louis is nestled in close to Putnel, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Louis content to control rather than advance.
Louis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Louis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

DeAndre Louis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A nice inside leg kick there by Louis. That's going to slow Putnel down.

Louis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Putnel's guard.
Louis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Louis forces his way into half guard.
Louis lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Louis is taking a breather. Putnel says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Louis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Putnel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Louis works his way into side control.

Louis is trying to get an arm triangle but Putnel is defending well.

Louis decides to stand back up. Louis steps back and let's Putnel get back to his feet.

Louis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Putnel takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Louis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Louis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Louis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Louis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Louis pushes Putnel up against the cage in a clinch.

Louis breaks from the clinch.
Putnel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Louis closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Putnel quickly recovers to half guard.
Louis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Louis passes to side control.
Putnel is breathing heavily.
Louis tries to advance to mount but Putnel denies him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Louis scores with punches from side control.
Louis controls the position from side control.

Louis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Putnel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Putnel being controlled for a moment.
Louis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Putnel is looking to regain half guard here but Louis keeps moving and retains side control.
DeAndre Louis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Louis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Putnel being controlled for a moment.
Putnel is working to avoid the ground and pound but Louis connects with a decent elbow.

Louis controlling the position from side mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Louis stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Louis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Louis instigates a clinch.

Louis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Louis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Louis cracks Putnel with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
DeAndre Louis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Louis tries for a takedown but Putnel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Louis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Louis showed some decent athleticism there.

Louis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Louis misses with a body kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Louis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Putnel did well to prevent Louis getting side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Putnel on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Putnel is trying to stand.
Louis stalling.
Louis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Putnel can do to turn this around?
Louis is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Putnel is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Louis scores with a couple of nice shots.
Louis passes to full mount!
Louis is landing with some decent strikes but Putnel is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Louis stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Louis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Louis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Louis is stalling in the full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Putnel wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Louis controlling from the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because DeAndre Louis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Louis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Putnel sprawls well initially but Louis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Louis uses his free foot to push down on Putnel's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Putnel.
Louis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Louis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Putnel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
DeAndre Louis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Louis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
