The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cruz moves away.
Smith tries to score with a low kick but Cruz moves his leg out of the way.
Smith throws out a loose jab but Cruz uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smith throws the left hand but Cruz avoids the punch easily.
Smith throws a hook but Cruz blocks it.
Smith swings widly with a right hand

so Cruz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Smith wants to sweep here but Cruz controlling him for the moment.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cruz is controlling him.
Smith has Cruz pulled in close to control his posture.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Pablo Smith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cruz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Smith looks to land a left hand but Cruz moved out of range nicely.
Cruz on the wrong end of a nice jab.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cruz is defended easily by Smith.
A telegraphed right hand from Smith misses the target.

Smith cracks Cruz with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Smith has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Cruz to stand back up!
Oh Cruz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Cruz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cruz avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Smith thuds a left hand into Cruz's body.
Cruz steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Pablo Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cruz ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
Smith measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Cruz! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!
