PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Lobo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Suspiria (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marco Suspiria told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Lobo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marco Suspiria!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lobo clinches up against the cage.
Suspiria prevents Lobo from breaking the clinch.
Suspiria fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Lobo prevents the takedown attempt.

Suspiria escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lobo throws a right hand that Suspiria ducks under and follows up with a left that Suspiria also avoids with ease.
A slapping leg kick lands for Lobo.
Lobo connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
No joy there for Lobo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lobo cracks the inside of Suspiria's front leg.
Lobo throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Suspiria checks a leg kick nicely.
Lobo throws a nice looking combination but Suspiria bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lobo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Suspiria's head backwards.
Suspiria steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Lobo. That one must have hurt.

Lobo clinches.
Lobo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Lobo is trying to trip Suspiria. He has hold of a leg but Suspiria is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lobo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Lobo is breathing heavily.
Suspiria looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Suspiria is working an open guard so Lobo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Suspiria circles away from the clinch attempt.

Lobo pushes Suspiria off and gets back to his feet.

so Suspiria counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Lobo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Suspiria is controlling him.

Lobo goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

and Lobo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Joe Lobo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marco Suspiria.

Suspiria drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lobo pulls his leg out and moves away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Suspiria is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lobo has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Lobo will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lobo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Suspiria tries to avoid it but Lobo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Suspiria to the ground. Suspiria escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Suspiria chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Lobo can pounce on him.
Lobo fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Lobo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Lobo throws a right hand that Suspiria ducks under and follows up with a left that Suspiria also avoids with ease.
Lobo closes the distance and clinches up with Suspiria, looking for a takedown. Lobo pushes Suspiria against the cage but Suspiria circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Suspiria closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Suspiria prevents Lobo from escaping the position.

Suspiria is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lobo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lobo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Suspiria off and has taken his back!
Lobo wants to control but Suspiria is keeping busy.
Suspiria is really stuck here.
Suspiria manages to reverse the position and now he's in Lobo's guard. Nice work there by Suspiria.
Suspiria slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Lobo pushes Suspiria away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Suspiria gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Lobo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Suspiria seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lobo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Suspiria looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Lobo makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Lobo throws a head kick but Suspiria moves out of range.
Good leg kick by Lobo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
